My parents' cat pissed on my seat....

I left the top down in the garage. Woke up, drove to the gym and smelled something funky in the car. I noticed the passenger seat had this shiny tone to it which I thought was weird. I smelled it and knew it was cat piss right away. I washed it with water and leather cleaner but smell wont go away. I dunno what to do. Should I kill the cat?

doheboy6 07-19-2006 03:28 PM

F* yeah! I hate cats. I guess you can park outside on a sunny day with the top down and let it dry?

jah 07-19-2006 03:30 PM

you may think to remove the seat

do the carpet

petsmart odor remover

its NOT a new car any more

CeleSaga83 07-19-2006 03:32 PM

More I think about it, more pissed I get.

moonsurfer 07-19-2006 03:34 PM

Skin the cat for new leather!
You may have to remove the seat and possibly strip the leather cover off the bottom of the seat to get to the foam. Chances are the cat piss went through the perforated wholes in your seat and soaked into the foam cushion.
Once you get the cushion out, soak it in the bathtub with some warm soap and water, rinse well and apply some odor remover then allow it to dry in the sun.

I can take out the foam without cutting the leather?

Emil St-Hilaire 07-19-2006 03:40 PM

Whatever you do,don't harm the cat.
It probably pissed on the seat, because there was akready some kind of odor on it.!!!
Is the cat a male or a female ???

chickdr 07-19-2006 03:42 PM

Being a veterinarian I have a suggestion for you. You need a product called "Urine-Off" it is only sold at veterinary offices. It will completely neutralize the urine odor. You still may need to remove the foam to do it right, but you could try using a syringe with a needle (also procurred from the vets office) and inject the solution through the pores directly into the foam. Let it dry and you should be done with it.

moonsurfer 07-19-2006 03:43 PM

Yes, when you take out the seat, there are some tension springs with hooks that hold the leather cover over the seat cushion at the bottom of the seat. All you need to do is release these springs to get access to the cushion.

meth 07-19-2006 03:44 PM

Could "Urine-Off" be used on leather? Just making sure.

Male

S2k Dude 07-19-2006 03:48 PM

Don't be pissed at the cat, you are the one that left your top down outside where the animal can jump in your car. The cat didn't do this to spite you.

Not sure why people let pets rome freely outside, it's dangerous for the animal. The cat or dog could get hit by a car (or cause a crash that injurs another person), the animal can be infected or physically hurt by another wild animal, etc. Being that chickdr is a vet I'm sure he/she will agree with me on this.

CeleSaga83 07-19-2006 03:51 PM

I'm not harming the cat. But, all this anger really isn't healthy for me.

Filthy Beast 07-19-2006 04:21 PM

There is truly nothing like the aroma of cat piss. Have your parents talk to the cat and ask him why he did that. Perhaps therapy is in order.

koala 07-19-2006 04:37 PM

You can try what I did when a friend of mine spilled an entire cup of coffee on my drivers seat...

Basically what we did was unbolt the seat, remove it... and then we dumped about 3-4 gallons of near-boiling water thru the seat, along with just a touch of upholstry cleaner. We used a shop vac to suck out all of the water thru both the top and bottom of the seat. (maybe replace upholstry cleaner with Urine-Off as chickdr mentioned)

I have red leather, so I saw a tiny bit of the red dye come out the bottom, but it was very minimal, and you can't see any colour fading on the top of the seat.

We also cleaned all of the carpet on the floor underneath the seat in much the same way, but with less water and more scrubbing.

You can't even tell there was an entire cup of coffee dumped in there now

I'm thinking a group session with all of you. Or just kick the cat in the n**ts.

jah 07-19-2006 06:26 PM

i can see this post moving to the Wash/Wax section.

serious: clean up the situation now, take the seat out etc. you will regret not doing it for years.

RStone 07-19-2006 07:16 PM

I would buy or find another seat entirely - I never got the cat piss smell completely out of my leather couches(ex wife's beastie) This way you know the smell will be of new leather and not new "wee-wee"...

:iagree:
Seriously,

Step 1: Remove the passenger seat from the car. It's 4 bolts with a socket, ratchet, and an extension. You will immediately remove the vast majority if not all of the odor. Do this immediately and it will allow you all the time you need to deal with the seat (well, as long as you don't need to carry a passenger).

Step 2: Take stock of what you are dealing with. A little bit of cat piss can go a long way creating a stink. A lot of cat piss can be pervasive. This will also give you a chance to check out the seat cover attachment. I may be wrong, but I thought the seat covers were put on with hog rings and that you would probably need hog ring pliers to put it back on. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, a lot of piss will require removing the seat cover and cushion. At that point you will need to decide whether to disassemble yourself or take it to an auto upholstery shop.

I'm glad you're not vengeful towards the cat, and I agree the anger probably isn't good for you.

I think there are professional cleaning products specifically for cat urine. Maybe try Google or even Autopia. I don't know how difficult it would be to disassemble a seat, but I know I wouldn't want to try and put one back together. Taking the seat out for cleaning shouldn't be too tough. Do you have the book? http://download.honda-fanatics.nl/manual/A...ce%20Manual.zip
Good luck.

kinetica 07-19-2006 08:10 PM

Cats suck!

smurf2k 07-19-2006 08:29 PM

you should sell the car and move out

ladius 07-19-2006 08:50 PM

this happened to me long time ago on my old mitsu mirage w/ cloth seats. I sprayed the area with lysol and after a while, the smell disappeared. not sure if that would work on leather though.

Have any Asian friends :eek3: ?

It will never happen to you again. But then I could never understand why people have cats as pets, or for that matter dogs too, it seems like a PITA with all the maintenance to keep them alive.

Wife and I just got home from dinner at a upscale outdoor mall . A couple of Metros were annoying me in the outdoor waiting area with their damn dog (why would you bring a fvcking dog to a mall) ?The damn dog came near me one time too many and I told the guy and his f_g hag to keep the dog away from me or I would take a penalty kick with it as the ball. My wife ran over with part of our dinner group to let them know I would do it and then take a kick at Metro boy

Long story short no goal for me. And the food sucked too :thumbdn:

I think Griot's Garage has a product you can use on their web-site to fix the smell.

Now, I just need to find a cat, can you ship yours over? :D

It should be ok if you spray it on and wipe it off immediately. You could call the company when you buy it and ask as well. It is designed for carpets but can be used on hard surfaces as well. Of course I agree with others here about cats being inside(unless of course you live on a large farm in the middle of nowhere...

Here is the company web site where you can buy it:

esracer 07-21-2006 07:54 AM

you pissed off the cat, he decided to pay you back.

arush19 07-21-2006 12:53 PM

Maybe cats don't like S2000's? One day I drove up and parked at my friends place and her outdoor cat promptly came up to the front wheel and sprayed it! Steam came off the hot rotor, and let me tell you, that steam was not pleasant smelling! I bet she trained her cat to spray cars that park in her spot.

Johnny Sack 07-21-2006 12:59 PM

i ****ing hate cats! sorry to the cat lovers, but death sentence!

ian05s2k 07-21-2006 04:42 PM

Sorry about that man, that really sucks. If it makes you feel any better, when my buddy's cat pissed on his bed, he shaved the cat completely and then put it in a cage and poured water on it . The bottom of the cage was solid so there was about 6 inches of water sitting and the car flipped out for quite a while. Then he put stuffed it in the microwave a little later and when his sister opened it up the car freaked her out. It was pretty funny. The cat looked hilarious for a few weeks until it's hair grew back enough to look notmnal again. Good luck with the seats. I would say a good chance to claim it on insurance and get some nice aftermarket seats though. Whatever you do though i hope it goes well.

The cat would have been dead in 5 minutes or less if it were my car.
