Default Need backup key and remote

Bought an 02 from private seller about a month ago with 1 key and 1 remote. I probably should get an extra set of keys and remote cause you never know.
Should i go to dealer? Suggestions?

For the key you will need to go to dealer. For the remote, can you describe it? (Number of buttons, shape, etc?) If it is just the standard Honda Keyless entry fob, then you can get one for cheap off of eBay.

The problem with the key is that there is a microchip in the key that is coded to the computer in the car. You need the dealership to set the code on the key for you.

the key will open doors, but it will NOT start the car.

I think there is a procedure you can do to program the remote. that doesn't require dealer intervention.

Also, key fob was about $75 from the dealer and the key was $25 from the dealer. I have the same problem of 1 key and fob.

Ok guys yes each key has an imobiler chip in it that will link up to your ecu so that you can start the car - thefeore the dealer is the only one that can help with the key

as for the remote - It's very easy to program once you get an extra one

http://www.handaaccessories.com/crv/KEYLESSPROG.pdf

you can have up to three remotes for each car..

if any of you are intrested i can sell you my spare one for $25.00
