New- considering an S2K

Hey.

I used to have RX7s when I was a bit younger, always liked the S2K's, and I've been wanting something fun in addition to my DD (2012 Altima Coupe 3.5SR). I used to have a motorcycle, but some prick kid hit me and ran me over, but I didn't die so I think I'm gonna get back in a semi-cage. I have read up on and done some homework on what to look for and buy, but I would like some of your opinions on this high mileage AP1: https://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/5954065536.html

I'm handy and don't mind a project, and I think the above is a pretty good deal. With my RX7s I'd drive them and when shit was wearing out or broken just upgrade it. I'd probably do the same with this. Again it would be more of a toy/project that I'd probably auto-x a little bit... the FWD DD is too damn boring.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to learning more about these cars.

compression test. check valve retainer and valve clearances. accident history? top condition? all vin tags on all panels? Fluid change history? Panel rust? Underside photos? Carfax?

i like the non OEM colour combination but was it done for personal taste of owner or was it flood damaged or something else?

I replace ALL fluids/spark plugs with any used car purchase to reset the maintenance to zero.

$7500? hmm, good question. bank on new top $800, engine replacement if issues $4000. it is a bit of a gamble- are you buying someone else's headache? Provided the maintenance is kept up, Honda's live a very long life.

good luck.

All great questions I will be asking! I'd try to get it for $5-5.5k cash. The top is a hard top- would that have similar issues as a soft? I like the way the hard tops look better, personally. And I would absolutely get a compression test- apparently cyl #4 can have issues, as well as everything else mentioned.

Thanks!

I think however, everyone will agree that a car unseen with that many miles is a higher risk purchase.
I personally do not like the interior color, but from the pictures it looks like it's in pretty good condition. But who knows how old those pics are and what's not being shown.
200k+ miles on any car is a lot - yes Hondas run long but they do require maintenance. 15-16 years and 200k miles is a lot of time and distance for bad habit owners and there are many wear items that if not addressed already will certainly need attention.

Yes I did get it. I can put some more pics up later.
It has an HKS cat back, k&n fipk intake and an ap2 trans and rear end I believe. Wheels are stock painted black- someone before he previous owner painted them green...puke

soo much fun to drive- really reminds me of my old 2nd gen Rx-7 a bit. Except faster.

Nice, I loved the Spa Yellows when they came out. Congrats and enjoy your first gen S!
