Default New s2k owner scared to take it above 5k rpm's

I bought a 2000 nfr s2k a couple of months back and I love it. The only thing is that im afraid to take it above 5k rpm because im afraid to blow the valve retainers. Also it feels weird to be reving it 5k+ and be going 20mph.

Is there anything i can do to give the car more torque? And how likely am i to blow the engine bringing the car to 9k rpms?

If you're concerned about the valve retainers, then it would be best to check them out (or have a qualified mechanic do it). Is there some reason you think they're cracked? Was the engine over-revved at some point?

Unless there is prior damage, you aren't going to hurt the engine by bringing it to 9k. It's exactly what it's designed to do.

IMO if you want more torque, you bought the wrong car . There's plenty of FI solutions out there, but if you want to stay N/A you'll never make significantly more torque without throwing a ton of money at the engine.

I remember when I was like that. Take that bad boy to the highway and get into third or 4th gear and bring the revs up. It's a whole different car. A beast to be exact. You won't regret it. Once you've done it 3 or 4 times it will be old hat. You will grow to love it. Next time your club goes on a drive you need to go. They will definately show you where it's at.

Theres no way id ever want to get rid of the s2k. I guess its something ill have to deal with.

About the valve retainers: i havent had a chance to take it into Honda to check them out. I would do it myself but id most likely end up screwing it up.

i think i know how you feel. its hard to get used to revving an engine this high. after you drive it awhile you will eventually get used to it. these cars were built for the track. they do have little issues here and there, but for the most part can take hard driving. i think the high way is a great place to get used to it. you can open it up and get used to the feeling of the car.

^^^
Exactly. I did come from driving an older lexus rx300 suv and it was odd for that thing to rev above 3500rpm so maybe thats why it feels weird for me

^^^ maybe you didnt research this car to well, its famous for revving high. driving other honda's in the past, i know they simply need the high rpm. the s2000 is not alive unless you drive through the entire gears.

by the way, what year, and how many miles does your s2000 have!?

It's just broken in Jax. What's the fun in cruising around and babying it???

As mentioned earler, the S was meant to be driven and that means getting into the V-tec zone !!!

You won't break it bro !
