Dan Carney in his book stated that Honda did these tests in Japan. Frontal impact received five stars and side impact received four.

Anyone else here find it funny that the NHTSA website has a directory at the bottom of the page showing a dashboard with a HUGE cellular phone attached to the dash?

Methinks its pretty sneaky to do a side impact on this car.

Its pretty difficult to put side air bags in a small convertible.
I notice no frontal is planned.

Personally I think the NHTSA spensd a lot of extra time justifying their own existance & the Fed's air bag requirements. I don't have a lot of faith in a government that mandates explosive devices in a passenger compartment.

The government is, in its typical brainless fashion, spending a ton of our money and not really fixing the problem. ie:Mandating airbags, when what is really needed is slightly improved seatbelts(much less expensive I might add) and better drivers education and requirements.

I have always felt that government required airbags is similar to an example that if your neighbor is hitting you on the head with a baseball bat, our government would probably require everyone to wear a helmet.

Oh well! Will Rogers said it best.
"The only problem with our democratic government is that one of the people running for office wins."

Actually I'm more worried about S2000's side impact abilities rather than frontal. It definately looks more dangerous if a car was to crash an S2000 on the side.

Most of the crash test are done at 40-45mph...So how many of us are usually traveling under 45MPH in the S2Ks? Hmmmmm....

They are obviously confused and made a mistake vis a vis the rear seat test. That aside, the high X bone frame and double side impact beams should give a decent rating. There was a post with a diagram that showed that the design was to sustain a 50Kph impact in any direction.

The 45Mph side impact test is actually pretty realistic IMO. That is the speed that someone running a red light might very well hit you at as to cross an intersection or, if it's your fault, as you pull out and make a left (or right for some) into oncoming traffic. You are unlikely to have a side impact at greater speed (expressway, freeway, highway, whatever) unless you spin into a pole or pillar.

The S2000 cockpit is wonderfully snug but there is very little room to go if the side caves in. The thought of being pinned in the seat with a crushed pelvis is not a pleasant one.

No worries here either way.

Out of my three vehicles, could it possibly be the worst in a crash test?
