Default No garage for s2k

I am about to buy a MY04 but I do not have a garage to keep it in. This car will be sitting outside all year round in New England and will be subject to snow and all of the elements. Has anyone else left there S ungaraged? Will this harm the convertible top? I am also thinking about the 350z but I like the S more but am afraid that without having a garage the convertible top will be ruined by being outside all the time. Can anyone give me some personal feedback or imput on this. Thanks

Hey Mooky,

Glad to see another future ct owner. Please visit New England Community

So you need a garage. Problem solved:

you could do what paivag did, or get a hardtop

Well that was just a garage solution. My S is hibernating in a newly built garage.

BTW, the top is pretty durable. It is made of vinyl! Just make sure you brush the snow not to have to much weight.

I parked my S2000 outside every day. That includes winter, and I drove it in weather as cold as -40 degrees.

As long as you take good care of it (wax/polish it often to keep up a protective layer) there is no problem with parking it outside.

Use 303 cleaner and protectant on the top to keep it looking new!

I have no garage but I do have the tarp canopy similar to what paivag posted. Works great and I can move it if I have to.

I had my Silverstone '01 for 2 years with no garage, and the day I traded it in it looked exactly like the day I bought it, the secret is keeping it clean and detailed.

I agree with S2Kguy. I have had my Insight for almost 4 years now. It has been parked outside and it is my daily driver. Thanks to good care and the use of a paint sealant I still get compliments from people on how good it looks. Some even think I just got it this month.

I do garage (storage facility) the S because it is not a daily driver and I live in a easily accessible neighbourhood. So to save me the possible heartache of it being stolen/vandalized (or the top ripped by cats) while I am at work I park it in a storage facility. It also saves me the trouble of having to clean it when it rains (If I haven't driven it).

Finally, I eventually became a track whore so I can use the storage facility to store the spare set(s) of wheels and other S accessories (big ass jack, jack stands, spare parts, etc)

I use a cover for when it is outside. So far so good. Car looks great. The only problem I've had is some corrosion INSIDE the wheels, that's kind of annoying and hard to clean. Otherwise, cover works great. Keep it waxed, put the cover on, you'll be fine.

I recently bought a home with a garage, but for a year and a few months the car stayed outside under a covercraft weathershield ($199). Just remember to use 303 on the top right before the summer and right after the summer to keep it nice and black looking.
