I went to get a oil change at the local Honda service center yesterday (Bay Ridge Honda) in brooklyn. It was the worst experience I have ever had with getting a simple F#$king Oil change. First off, I see them getting my car onto the lift and there is like 3 guys yanking the car from underneath the wheel well to get it in the right position. I almost flipped out about that but I figured they knew what they where doing.
Anyway, they drained the oil and then my car sat there for 2.5 hours without anyone doing anything to it. So I had just about enough and I went to the manager and said, "why the hell is a simple oil change taking over 2 hours." He said, "we didnt realize we didnt have the right grade oil for your car and they were waiting for a delivery." Something they should have told me before I gave them my car keys!!! So 3 hours later they finally finish the oil change. I drive home and pull in my driveway. As i'm walking past the front of my car towards my front door I see a sparkle out of the side of my eye coming from the front fender, about the point where they were yanking up my front end. The sun was shining on the car perfectly revieling a brand new dent that was definetly not there when I brought the car in for the oil change. Upon closer inspecting there was also some brand new scratches above the wheel well. I got right back into my car and drove like a bat out of hell back to the garage. I stormed in the place and demanded to speak to the person in charge. I took him out to the car and after about 5 minutes of bitching he told me if I brought the car in on tuesday, he will have it fixed for me. I forgot to ask for a refund for the oil change from hell but I'll be sure to do that on tuesday. So if anyone from brooklyn needs an oil change, beware of Bay Ridge Honda. P.S. During the 3 hours I went to the parts department to ask how much it will be to replace my 2001 center console to the 2002 leather center console and the price was $398. WOW. I guess I'll be ordering Ricks real soon. |
Yet another example of why I do my own oil changes.

Yours is the second posting I've read about a dealership not having the correct oil in stock. If a simple oil change took so long, how long do you think it's gonna take them to repair the fender?I 'm due for my first oil change after another 700 miles and for sure I'm gonna call first and ask if they have the proper oil before I go in,in addition to making sure all the spring spacers were removed.

What's so complicated about 10W-30? It's the same stuff that most Hondas use, isn't it?

Hey Joe I also go to Bay Ridge but I go at night b/c my friend is a Mechanic there. I can hook you up with him, he takes great care of my car everytime it goes there !!

Joe-
Sorry to hear about your nightmare experience at the dealership. Not an the first bad dealer experience I've read about. When I'm due for my first change, I'll do it myself. It's interesting that you are planning to buy a Rick's leather console cover. I have an '01 with a red interior, and I recently took delivery of a red leather console cover from Rick. But I have decided to keep my interior stock. Let me know if you are interested in buying my console cover. I'll sell it to you for $25 off Rick's price. Just drop me an e-mail at gary.madison@verizon.net. Gary |
Doing your own oil changes is OK for the time being, but I think it's better to let my local dealer get to know me now for something simple,so when the major repairs come up later...they already know about me,and how picky I can be....you may get the rep as being a pain in the butt to the service writers, but that ain't always half bad.

I wouldn't feel comfortable using 10W-30 in my neck of the woods but then again, it's a late March-mid November car. The trouble is, temps can get real wacky up here even during those months.
