Options for lowering the RPM when VTEC kicks in

Guys,

I would like to increase the performance of my '05 S2K, but my preference would be to explore other options before having to go the route of a super charger or turbo charger (which may be an option at a later time).

The biggest challenge I see so far is that VTEC kicks into heavy breathing mode at 6500 RPMs, which limits the rev range of usable power. I would think that Honda chose the 6500 mark to keep daily driving gas milage at an accpetable to high level.

So a couple of questions:

- Are there any ECU (engine control units) available for an '05 S2K, which will lower the RPM mark where VTEC will kick in?

- If so does any one have experience with these units and how much of an impact did it have on performance?

I would think that that by lower the RPM range where VTEC kicks in you would have more horsepower and torque available at lower RPM's which could improve 0-60 times and punch coming out of corners.

Thanks for any and all feed back.

I believe there are vtec controllers out there. I belive that apexi puts one out that is also a VAFC. I'm not to sure about these units becuase I've just recently got a honda, but i am thinking about getting a vtec controller myslef.

too bad you dont have an 06 cause hondata lowers the vtec... but they said something like without mods if you lower it , you actually lose power... something to think about.

Just because VTEC helps the engine breath better at higher rpms doesn't mean it will help the engine breath better at low rpm. You can only go so low and then the engine will bog.

what would it take to make high rev power down low? only turbo?

Where did you get that info?

xviper said the proper answer.

Why don't you add weight to your feet instead of making complicated changes to the engine? lol

i can lower your vtec change over 500 rpm's without even doing anything to you car! go drive it now!!! i set your car so that vtec kicks in a 6000 rpm!!!!
go on drive it!!! :p

We got the magic touch for you... lol.

OP: You're mistaken... VTEC comes on at 6000 RPM. I'm assuming you don't look at your tach when driving?... lol.
