performance/sound mods for new ride
I am picking up my '02 black/red s2000 on Thursday from Maroone Honda in Hollywood (MSRP + $4 something dealer prep with with free lo jack). I am interested in maximum performance and great engine noise evidenced by my outrageously noisy and fast turbocharged Integra GSR running 10 lbs of boost, etc. I have already purchased wheels and tires (Volk GT-P's 18x9, 18x8 and Toyo Proxes tires and have delivery of an injen cai if I want it. I'm interested in opinions concerning intake/exhaust and other performance options for solo autocross. I am planning to keep the stock wheels to mount racing tires (anyone want to buy the oem tires with @ 400 miles, let me know.) I'm having trouble containing my excitement since I didn'y expect to get the car for several more weeks. Catch me if you can. Ted

Hi Ted,
So far the S2000 has been raced primarily in stock-class autocross, so your modifications are pretty much limited to:
Air filter (no CAI)
Cat-back exhaust
front sway bar
shocks
DOT race tires (Kumho or Hoosier preferred) on stock size (width, diameter, and offset within .25") wheels
thermostat, radiator cap, brake pads, alignment
I'm sure there's stuff I'm missing; there's lots more info in the Racing&Competition forum.
The Amuse exhaust is the lightest (8lbs. vs. the stock's 50) and probably loudest S2000 exhaust there is. Expensive though. No S2000 exhaust makes huge power gains, so the decision is made mostly on the basis of price and sound. If you do a search for "exhaust" you'll get a TON of info, opinions, and some sound clips. There is no consensus about which is best for auto-x.
If you want to go nuts there's a guy out in florida (derryck) that's recently put together a turbo kit. $6k for 6psi and >300RWHP, which nets low 12's last I saw...
Congratulations on an excellent purchase!

The Spoon header/exhaust combo is an excellent pkg. speaking from personal experience. The spoon exhaust itself is less than 1/2 the weight of the stock exhaust and is much more economical than the Amuse.
