Poor paint quality on S

I was just cleaning up my S and I noticed I have a couple of fresh chips in my hood :banghead: My car is two years old this week garaged and babied and always has a couple of coats of wax on it and the paint is just unbelivably delicate. I've had ten year old cars that had better paint quality this is the worst of any car I've owned. Has anyone had any luck complaining to Honda and having them fix the paint problem? I'm figuring they will call it normal wear with it being stone chips and deny the claim but to me there is no way it should chip so easily.

Hum rock hits paint at 50+ mph paint chips = poor paint?

No way. Its only paint it doesn't have super powers.

Last sports car I had was a four thousand dollar Mustang Gt I drove it a lot harder than my 30k S and the paint held up a whole lot better on that Mustang as it did on the other 20+ sports car I have owned none of which cost even a quarter of what I paid for the S.

Belive me your not the only one. Honda paint is very soft, i belive it has something
to do with their enviromental standards as to why the paint isn't harder.

Hence why touch up paint is an S2K owners best friend.....

Car is MUCH lower to the ground than that Mustang you owned robb.

How many Group Drives have you gone on where you followed the car in front of you too closely? Those sticky rear tires can chuck up some pretty big rocks.

How soft is your windshield?

3M clearbra all the way... My MY00 had an unbelievable # of chips when traded it. So I vowed never again, but I couldn't get my 04 Silverstone clear bra'd right away and now I have 4000 miles and 7 nice chips that touch up paint WILL NOT MATCH, I have whined extensively about it in 'wash&wax' if anyone is interested.
Long and short this is some seriously soft and chippable paint, and difficult to match as well, at least in silverstone. So now I have decided since I have a half a dozen unmatched chip repairs, I'm not going to spend the $600 to cover them with 3M clear. Just run it into chipsville and repaint in a couple of years. (With some 2-part, hard as heck, High VOC, environmentally unfriendly aftermarket paint.)
Good luck trying to talk to Honda, you never know though.
Cheers, Mike

And FYI, all modern manufacturer's paints are getting softer, due to higher levels of environmental regulations limiting VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) used in paints and resins. I put over 70,000 hard miles on an 86 Supra (Very low front end) and it had fewer chips than my MY04 with 4000.

Primer doesn't count as paint.

I've got the same thing. Garage, 4 million coats of wax and the chips in the front.
I've just decided to enjoy the car. If you drive it, it's going to happen. That's all there is to it. Be happy that your car isn't silverstone. Even with the Autovisuals paint pen, the silver is an impossible match. As long as I don't get too close to the front, my car looks brand new.
