Is it possible that S2K doesn't need mods?

Isn't modifying the S2K like having a street painter put some final touches on a Picasso

no, its like taking a great painting that has been sitting around, collectomg dust and refinishing it....depending on the way you mod. Most mods are things the company could/would do, but either they don't have broad enough appeal or they would make the base price too expensive.

if they don't need to be modded....then why don't you see stock ones on the racing circuit?

it would be.. if u were moding a mclaren f1

I believe this question can only be answered by each owner themselves. Some think stock is perfectly fine while others want to add some "personality" to the car by adding things they believe make the car look better. Speaking for myself, I love to mod cars, and no car will stay stock as long as I'm livin...:D

what "circuit" Neil Sapp was running a near stock s2000 (at the time the only thing available was a comptech exhaust) and doing very well. They don't "need" to be moded. Correction, I think a CAI is a must have. Other than that, no mod is really needed.

SR71BB has gotten B Stock championships in SCCA autocross for multiple years in the central states without *any* mods (save for Hoosiers on the stock rims).

I'm not sure what 03_AP1's point is.

As a street car, I think the S2000 doesn't need any mods. As for adding your own touch / personality, well then -- of course!

03_AP1 09-01-2003 04:41 PM

my point is that ANY car can be improved over its stock form....whether peformance or appearance wise....and it is totally subjective....what one person may think is perfect, another may not

OK. Well, cool. Yes, I agree with that.

I think it's worth pondering why most Ferrari or Lambo owners wouldn't modify their extremely exclusive vehicles (vs. S2000 owners, for example). Forgetting for a moment the cost of entry, I think these people don't feel any need to make mods when the cars are so "custom" to begin with. That's not to say they couldn't improve them; I think it's just a state of mind.

Not to be conceited about it, that is exactly how I feel about my S2000. There are so few S2000s on my daily commute that I already feel unique. I know that with 25,000 or so bretheren in the US, our car is not exactly exclusive, but I feel that way nonetheless.

The S with 11 psi from my Vortech feels nicer than stock. :)
