Unhappy Powder Coat wheels while on Lease?

* puts on flame retardent suit *

I got my s2k on lease.

I would like to powder coat my OEM wheels a different color.

I know that could be madness considering its a lease.

I don't want to get in trouble with AHC.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing. Does AHC care? Would the dealer know one way or the other?

I know that if I was set on keeping this car after the end of my lease term, it wouldn't matter at all, but I am as of yet undecided on that matter, I think I'll want to trade up for a different color.

Don't flame me to badly for asking, as, yes, I do realize that I am probably a dumb ass for even considering it...

I really wouldn't do that on a leased car, esp if you are even thinking about giving it back. If anything I would get a second set and PC the worse of the 2 sets.

I would try and find out if the dealership would have any issues with it, if not, have it put in writing (as always), if they would, i'm certain you would be able to pick up a set of stock rims on here for a decent amount, swap the wheels, and sell the powdercoated ones.

I don't think they would honestly care. I work for a dealership and as long as you buy another car it wouldn't matter. Hell we don't care much about the miles either.

Check the terms of the lease, chances are it's prohibitted. I'd wait untill you decide on keeping the car.

The lease terms are vague in that regard... I mean where do you draw the line. It is ok for me to add oem accessories, I had a matching lip spoiler added to the car as well as the oem headrest speakers, both of those things require drilling holes. I know that I won't have to remove them from the car and return the car to the original state when I return the car.

What if I had a rio yellow s2k and decided to put a OEM black lip spoiler on it. Am I responsible for removing it and/or is that prohibited just because it is an eye sore? Changing the color of something on the car seems to be this point that isn't covered under any part of the agreement.

Hence my question...

decided to call the dealership, talked to someone in the service department. They said that as long as they are professionally done and that at the time of lease termination they are in good condition it won't matter, as they judge that type of stuff the way they would with any other part of the car.

So, if the paint was chipping there would be deductions, if they weren't even powder coated and had bad curbage you would be docked for that, so he said it all has to do with how re-saleable the car looks when I return it.

::: BUT :::

I know that dealerships like to tell you what you want to hear until it comes time to screw you out of your money... But I would assume that he would be telling the truth considering it is someone from AHC who looks the car over independent from the dealership, at least thats what I've heard. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Chances are, the person who inspects the car before you terminate your lease won't know the difference between OE wheels and your powder coated ones (as long as they look good).
