Pristine 1k mile MY00 NFR on BaT

An absolutely stunning example. It's been just a few hours since the auction started, and bidding has already hit $30K. :o This one could bring "Mecum money". ;)

I'm watching it too, it's a perfect reference for the value of my 01 spa with 2k miles;)

Sad to think it's sat for 18 years and will most likely sit out the rest of it's life.

What's crazy is that with only 2K miles, your car has double the miles of the car on Bring A Trailer. With that few miles you must be hanging on to your S as a collectible, how much difference does first year of production v.s. later model years make to collectors? Also, how much of a factor is sub 1000 miles like the Mecum car v.s. 1000+ miles (even if it's just barely over) like the Bring A Trailer car?

I bought it with 868miles a couple of years ago, found myself reluctant to drive out, always worrying about where I park, whether it will rain etc. I put ~300miles every year, just enough to get it around the town, warm up the engies every two or three weeks. Finally I got an ap2 earlier this year, so that I can finally drive a s2k further and go to a track day. I know it doesn't deserve this destiny, but I can't just convince myself.

"Mecum money":

That car was just as nice, but not particularly rare/interesting in terms of production (not first year, not a rare color, not a rare interior, not a CR). I think the BaT car is far more "special" as a time capsule first-year example in classic sports-car red, but I'd be shocked if it gets anywhere near 70. (I've said before that Mecum must have been pumping something through the ventilation that day. ;) )

Still, if two determined bidders get going, anything can happen. It'll be fascinating to watch.

Meanwhile, we can also dream of this car:

Life's too short... poor car missing out on all that fun.

I thought I was the only one thinking the same. I really dislike the collector market, where people view cars as investments. We have the same problem in the RX7 community. These cars were meant to be driven, not parked in a garage their entire lives.

I agree. I have never understood why people don't drive cars. I can imagine not driving one of 17 original TV used General Lee's but life is way too short to not just enjoy everything you can. There are far better investments you can make if the intent is to make money, although I am in no position to offer any of this advice. :) I'm just an unfrozen caveman lawyer and this strange world frightens me.
