Problems with AEM CAI

Hi ,

In November 2002 i bought a red AEM Cold Air Intake. Today i removed the filter for cleaning and i found out that near the edge of the piping that connect to the filter , paint is cracking up INSIDE THE PIPE. It has a 3 inch piece of paint missing, it cracked and i imagine it went thru the throttle body inside the engine. Right now it looks like it is not gonna crack anymore because i tried to remove pieces of paint with my fingernails and i could not remove the cracked paint. I have photos of it. I've never had problems with the car so i believe it didn't affect the motor.

Any suggestions , will this affect my motor??!! Should i install it back?

Thanks people!

im sure if anything does happen, you could get AEM to supply you with a JDM spec engine =)

I didn't open the pic because I don't like downloaded zip files (virus concerns), but why is there paint INSIDE the intake to begine with? Unless something has changed, AEM only coats the outside of the tube with the inside remaining bare aluminum.

Ah, gotcha....if it worries you for future use, use some steel wool and scrape the paint in that area off. If any paint WAS sucked into the intake, any potential damage was done long ago. The paint chips were either burned up or blown through the exhaust (actually, probably caught in the cat).

I saw those pics and I'm astonished that the inside of the pipe is indeed painted and there is quite a bit of missing paint. Have you taken the pipe off and looked inside? Maybe there is still evidence of the paint bits still in there. Look inside the TB too.

it looks like some paint leaked inside the pipe when it was manufactured... i'll post some pics instead for those who don't downloaded the photos.

Thanks
