I have 4.77's in my stock AP1. There is a HUGE difference in gearing, so much so that it really brings the car to life from 0-60. 4.77's in your '06 (AP2), would be shorter than an AP1 due to the difference in transmission setups between both generations. I would suggest going through Jeff Goetz at www.hardtopguy.com for this setup. He can sell it to you either installed or just the ring and pinion for either you, or someone you know to install it. I purchased mine from him and have had no problems what so ever. I purchased it from him already installed in a diff housing. If you are having it done by someone else make sure they know what they are doing as a poor install can really screw this mod up. There are tolerances that need to be precise, one screw up can damage the whole thing.

Goodluck!

It's hard to say. I'd think yes, almost certainly.

The gears make you faster in most situations, but there ARE ranges where a stock car would be better. It all depends on the speed range you are talking about, though. Each ratio has a sweet spot.

0-60 alone I'm not sure about. Remember you will have to shift to third whereas a stock car won't. I think that will almost negate the gains, but from 0 to a quarter mile I'm sure you'll pick up 0.3-0.5 seconds.

From a dig, it is generally accepted gears help. They give you more effective torque at the wheels when you need it most.

You want the Comptech modifications done if you want the diff to be strong as the weak spot is the bearing caps in the diff case. Comptech beefs these up along with the studs. It's an extra $399 but worth it IMO, ESPECIALLY if you plan on launching from a stop!

On installation, don't let some ricer shop or some hick do it. This is high precision work and getting the tolerances wrong will spell noise at the best or a fragged diff. My recommendation is to get it from Rick's or Hardtopguy. They offer a swap service, where all you have to do is swap diff casings...any ricer shop or hick can do that. They ship you a case with an installed diff/gearset, you put it in and send back your old case/diff with the stock gearset. All told I think it's about $1200 for a 4.77 with Comptech upgrades installed. Swapping the casing will probably be 1-1.5 hours of work.

To install the gearset yourself, most shops will charge about $500 and you won't know if they are good until you get the car back...big gamble. This is NOT something you can do yourself unless you dismantle transmissions regularly. Swapping the case is pretty easy, though.

he has an ap2 so he needs a shift to 3rd before hitting 60 regardless. there is no question your car will be faster to 60, but this is such an arbitrary and meaning performance measurement your car will be faster and there is no reason not to upgrade unless you do a lot of highway cruising and the higher RPMs will annoy you.
