Question?
How many of you do not warm up your car before taking off with it?
The engine needs to warm to three bars (digital thermo) before you engage the transmission and put any higher rpm's on the motor or put weight behind the engine in other words.
(Read the owners manual.)
This is because the heads are aluminum and must expand slightly within the chambers so they dont rattle before warming.
You can tell people who start engines then rev them and take off after a couple years the heads have ripples down inside the chamber walls.
Whats your take?
Also revving out the engine with the engine not engaged (in gear moving) is a big no no as well. Over time it will kill the power of the engine. I get a kick of people who wind there engines out to... "hear how the sound."
Really horrible for a high revving engine.
Im real meticulous about my car and the Ducati.
Always let the warm properly and never wind them out.
Blurrrrrrrrr

common practice is to drive the car nice and easy until it warms up to 3 bars. This way the tranny fluid warms up as well rather then just the engine temp. Just don't try to hit vtec while the engine isnt warmed up and drive slow.
I wont even move my car untill its warmed to 3 bars. Done this since I bought it.
Had 100 miles when I got it.
I had a buddy of mine start up his viper and start revving it like crazy instantly.
I nearly fainted.

Id love to see where in the owners manual it says that.
While i agree never start the car and immediately rev it high, or put it under a lot of load is bad, to start driving it 30 seconds to a minute after its been running will not hurt it or cause any....ripples in the head.
Under your logic, you would need to start the car, let it get to 3 bars (maybe 10-15min?) and then once you are driving, since the transmission and differential are still as cold as they were when the car was sitting, you'd need to idle around until they got up to operating temp?

I start my S and wait maybe 20 to 30 seconds, then I'm off. I granny shift (2,500rpm) until I see 3 bars. Once there, I never take my car over 5,000rpm until I've got 6 bars lit up.
