Quick Hardtop Help.
got a hardtop recently, but I only got part of the hardtop install equipment with it. I have the catchers, but there's no strikers. I have the Y wire for the defroster, but there's no button or center console connections. Anyhow, I installed the Y wire, and the Catchers, can you run the hardtop with the Stock strikers for now? or would you have to have the ones with the hardtop? I want to order them, but wonder if i'll have to wait till I get the parts to put the top on.
Any other advice with the hardtop is welcome. thanks. |
Hmm... when I put my hardtop on, I don't think I got replacement strikers. I think the stock strikers are fine, since you need them no matter if you are using the hard or soft top, right? :)
I wonder why you didn't get a button, though. That's kind of strange... |

Here's a pic of the original strikers on the '00 and many '01 S2000s. I think mid '01 Honda changed to the sturdier strikers on all S2000s (the ones on the right). Perhaps your hardtop installation kit was meant for the later cars but your car needed a different version of the installation kit. |
You may have gotten a kit for MY02 or later. The strikers on those models were upgraded and do not need replacement when using the hardtop. They also have a glass rear window with defroster on the soft top and therefore already have a defroster switch on the dash.
You will need the replacement strikers for your MY01. Hardtop guy will be able to set you straight and ship you what you need ... ,,, you gotta drive it like you just stole it !! |
Ohhh, yea I have an 01. I intend to order the strikers from some where.
Do you guys think I can put the top on in the mean time? |
I think moyopoyo had some for sale ...
Nobody is going to say it's ok to put the top on with the old strikers ... there was a reason they were improved. Besides ... why do you need a top on in California this time of year? |
the reason they were improved is because they were too soft. the locks exert force on the strikers, and eventually they started to groove where the locks go and lots of wind noise comes in when the top is up/on.
it is ok (safety wise) to use the old ones, but there will be plenty of noise. |
