Looks like someone had the balls to steal the mayors s2000 and got away with it...so far. I've heard they had a major problem with Honda thefts there. I know here in Philly it's pretty bad.

"In the past, thieves have tried to cut through the top but never succeeded in stealing the vehicle until now, he said."

"Spencer had last parked his black Honda S2000 sports convertible in front of Reading High School, near Douglass and N. 13th Streets, around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night. He walked home from there, returned the next morning, and discovered that the car was missing."

Doesn't sound like the sharpest knife in the drawer to me... this is a car you NEVER EVER park outside overnight.

However, when you're on a road trip in your S, it is not always possible to park in a locked garage overnight. How do you get around "NEVER"? I've spent the night at friends across town or out of state from time to time, or at a motel along the route. A locked garage is not always available. It's street parking, only sometimes. What precautions can I take in those circumstances?

Reading, PA is infamous for Honda thefts. Even when hondas go missing in the other neighboring towns, a lot of times they are found there.

I used to work in Downtown Reading and lived in a surrounding town (about ten minutes outside of Reading). I had my stock 2000 Civic Hatch stolen from my driveway in my quiet little town. Had automatic driveway lights, an alarm with fuel cutoff and a cop that lived underneath my apartment. They found the car in Reading the next morning completely stripped.

Reading having one of the highest unemployment rates in the Nation, the people there have a lot of time on their hands. Stealing and stripping cars is basically a full time job for them.
