However, when you're on a road trip in your S, it is not always possible to park in a locked garage overnight. How do you get around "NEVER"? I've spent the night at friends across town or out of state from time to time, or at a motel along the route. A locked garage is not always available. It's street parking, only sometimes. What precautions can I take in those circumstances?

You just make a choice and you live with it. Some choose one way, some choose another, and each person has to suit himself.

Shame! I'm planning on driving up the coast and heading towards Ohio to visit friends and family. I spent 3 years in Humboldt growing up, and things have gone downhill there recently. A hardtop might be in my future so I can sleep at night.
As far as vehicle thefts, it's a part of the society we live in. There are things we can do to prevent them but if somebody really wants your car, they will take it.

It's all just *stuff* anyway. Sure, no one wants to lose their stuff, but it is all just stuff. Get good insurance, enjoy your stuff, do what you can without letting it become an obsession, and live.

I thought insurance companies wouldn't be investigating for this long...
When my brother called his car gone they said they'll look for it and whatever, he never heard from them again, but got his insurance money.
