Rimm repairs?

I pretty bummed out about scraping my rims on Sunday. Does anyone know if scrapes on rimms are repairable? And if they are, do they ever look new again?

What does repairs on rimm scrapes involve if anyone knows?

I believe rim scrapes are more repairable versus bent rims which probably are more serious. I'm afraid I do not have any experience in this but I have seen numerous ads in car mags that repairs rims with a fast turnaround(typically 24 hours or so).

Most run about $100.00 or so per rim. Do an internet search for 'wheel repair' and you will get quite a few results.

Good luck

depending on the size and depth of the scrape, they might be repairable. if its just a little knick or two from a curb, i believe places file the rim down, and paint (or something) over the repair to look somewhat new. but if you scraped your rim really bad, you might want to go to a tire place and see if the rim is bent at all, if so, your better off getting a new rim.

I have had some experience with repairing rimms. If you can get your hands on an air compressor and a dremmel tool the repairs are actually quite simple. U want to first practice on a dummy wheel so you might want to visit a junk yard to get one, but once you have a good handle on it all you do is file or sand down the scrape. If the wheel is painted you have to find paint to match (maybe by calling the manufacturer), but other than that you can get it so it is pretty unnoticeable if the scrape is not huge. My brother and I did this to one of his rimms and unless you closely examine the wheel no one will ever know it was scraped. Plus you will know how to do it again just in case.

Thanks,

I have just taken to a tire place here in Canada and they quoted me a price of about 150-175$ in CDN.

It is more expensive than I thought. At some point, I was contemplating buy a new set of 17" rims. The ones I were going to buy cost around 2500$ with the tires so I think I may wait.
