1. You need to go to court 5 working days before your court date and ask for a continuance. Just say you will be out of town on business.
2. If you have a lawyer, USE HIM/HER. You would have more chance of getting off. Why would this piss off the judge? But your lawyer will not guarentee a WIN
3. If this is your first ticket, you can ask to go to traffice school so that the moving violation will not appear on your driving record.
4. Tell the truth because you are under oath . Do your homework. Subpeona the officer's note, his radar calibration (if he clocked you at certain speed) or his car speedometer calibration (if he paced you) for accuracy. Make sure to show up at trial because if the officer doesn't show up, your case will be dismissed.

Good luck dude...

Take defensive driving either on the internet or via video from Blockbuster. You won't get out of paying the fine, but you'll not get any points on your insurance and your record will be cleared.

One word, lawyer. You are dealing with the law, use an expert. It might help in pleading to a lower offense with less implications on your license, at least in NJ.

What state are you in? We need to know what state he's in before we start telling him he can take defensive driving to keep it off his record. I know Texas allows this, but not all states do.

Get a Lawyer.
I get about 1 or 2 tickets a year and still have a clean record.
The last ticket cost me $45 and that was it.
Not all lawyers are the same so check around.
One of the lawyers I use I got his name from a friend of mine that is a cop. It's the one his wife uses when she gets a ticket.

In my experience, the people who do not get a lawyer are the people who piss off the judge. Sort of a lack of respect for the system thing. Any who, get a lawyer. He will know a million ways to contort the law in your favor. Ways you'd never dream off. Speaking from experience

nvmys2k is giving you good advice. However, if you want to get more info with regard to what he's saying, go to Yahoo.com and just do a search for "speeding ticket". You'll get a list of web sites which give a wealth of information about how to avoid a ticket. There are a number of sites which expound on what nvmys2k is suggesting. Good luck in getting out of this one. Sounds like a bad rap to me. Maybe you can follow up later and let everyone here know the outcome.

Unless the ticket is going to get your license revoked, just pay the friggin' ticket. After paying a lawyer and/or court costs, you've wasted too much money. Further, if insurance cost is a major concern, then you shouldn't be driving a convertible roadster. I'm 23, so my insurance is high, but hey, that's the price you pay for the total package. Get used to it. By the way, this is not a flame, just a brutally honest post
