S2000 Engine in a Marine Outboard motor

No not yet, but I recently returned from Australia where I learned that Honda makes 225HP Marine Outboard motors that have VTEC Technology!. It really blew my mind. The Outboards have Civic engines obviously modified for use in outboard motors. They are quiet, and environmentally friendly for keeping lakes and rivers clean. They are an interesting departure from the outboards I remember, having 2 cycle instead of 4 cycle engines.

If anyone out there is into boat racing, can you imagine an Outboard, or for that matter, an inboard S2000 motor. It may have some interesting possibilities for boat raceing.

Honda dealers don't appear to be prevalent in Australia, except on the East Coast. Toyota seems to be the number 1 selling car there because Toyota makes its Australian vehicles more rugged for the Outback than Honda.

By the way, an S2000 in Australia costs over $80,000 Australian, and a Honda Accord cost over $40,000. (This was in one town whose dealership I visited). Prices may be lower elsewhere. (About 57 cents U.S. to the Australian dollar)

The Honda Marine 225Hp is a 3.5L V6...think Honda Odessey. A friend of mine has one, very quiet.

While the F20C is a great engine for a car, I don't think it would be very good in a marine enviroment, too loud, poor low end torque, and questionable durability at extended service at WOT.

Torque is VERY important when it comes to boats. Not gonna happen....

Good point made about the torque. I didn't think about that. Maybe the next generation S2K engine. :o

Honda was a pioneer in 4 stroke outboards. They really had a 10 year head start on anyone but didn't take advantage of that, although only recently have the 4 strokes caught on. My dad's boat has a 90 Mercury 4 stroke, and it's wonderful. Starts without a big puff of smoke, idles quiet and smoothly, decent power.

The F20C would actually make a decent outboard engine for a tunnel hull race boat... probably a 2.0:1 lower unit ratio and a short pitch prop. Awesome acceleration, limited top end... :D
