Default S2000 engine swap. is this possible?

I have no intentions of doing this, i just want to know if it is possible. i know that we can stroke our motors out, but has anyone attempted to just use an 04 motor in an 00-03? if this was possible to get the 04 2.2, which i think would fit right in, is it possible to maintain the 00-03's 9xxx rev limit on the 2.2 motor? has anyone else thought of this?

If I was to buy a used S, should I look for the 00' - 03' or the 04'?. I know the 04 has changed some things for the better. Someone said the 00' - 03's were faster? Which year is the best? (smooth, fast)

Thanks

smooth: 04
fast: they're about the same. MAYBE the 04 is a tick faster.

the 00-03's are more "raw" though. the 04 is softened to appeal to old ladies.

The redline would stay the same, it's still the same 2.2L engine just mated up to a different tranny. Nothing has physically changed in the mechanics of the engine and it would still have the same limits. you might be able to push it to the 9K redline because of the ecu etc, but that doesn't mean it's good for the engine. The whole reason for the lower redline was because of the longer stroke.

So the long and short of it is that it has been done and it was a full engine replacement, with ECU, but existing tranny with small modifications.

The Rev limiter has nothing to do with the engine, it is contained within the ECU. Replace your ECU with an AEM and you can change the rev limit to any value you want. The reason that the 2.2L is set at 8.2K is for reasons of safety. You can run the engine higher RPMs but you increase the risk of engine failure.

why do people bash the 04 for being too smooth? I've also heard them bash Z4 3.0i's for being too smooth...but that's a good thing in vehicles that can do in excess of 150mph
