That would be a unique and interesting way to post.

I wonder if OP is ever coming back to see what brands of oil exist today.

Hopefully he or she just bought a quart of each and just poured them in, as to get the benefits from the different brands.

^I sure hope so! The fact that people are having success with all different brands *might* mean that really...any oil will work since this is just an engine....and its just oil.

Maybe OP learned the most valuable lesson we can learn. We should all be so lucky.

Some people feel they need "Honda" branded oil. It's funny I came across this thread today. I work at the Honda factory in Alliston, ON and ironically today an co-worker who had taken a position at Honda Canada Inc. in Markham stopped by and we were discussing his new role. Turns out he has been assigned with determining which oil is to replace the "discontinued" S2000 oil. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

i'm currently running castrol edge 10w30. i read somewhere 5w30 is better for cold starts? temperatures never drop low in south florida, but i am all about reducing wear and tear during start ups if there is no downside to using a lighter starting weight. worth a go or stick with 10w?

The service manual shows Honda part number 08798-9015 as the engine oil. It's a 10W-30, just like the owner's manual specifies. Google search shows this part number as discontinued. Google search also turned up several threads on this forum over the years. Several state it was a synthetic blend. Same oil for Honda and Acura.

It appears to have been replaced by 08798-9035 which is found on Amazon, etc.

OP here-

Looks like a good 10w-30 is sufficient.

He or I don't drive many miles/yr and only in warm months and will both spring for the best to protect our investments. I'll changer my AP2 based on oil age not miles this summer.

I've also heard that full synthetic is the best for high perf ,high revving motors but yet Hondas recomm is a synthetic blend?

Any clarification, Walmart shoppers?
