S2000 oil dipstick level
Honda performed an oil change on my s so I am not sure how much of oil they put in. It had 3 hash marks on the dipstick (multiple readings) when the engine was cold. I decided to top it off. Now it is touching the bottom end of the ‘H’ on the dipstick when cold. Did I overfill or am I good?

Each 'x' is a quarter of a quart of oil, or eight ounces. Anywhere in the range of 'x' hashes is good - that is your fill range. If you overfill and see froth on the dipstick, you have too much oil, but if it's right at the 'h' you are probably okay.

The range between the H and L marks is a nominal quart or liter and, as noted, anywhere in that range is good, no need to keep topping up the the H mark but don't let it go lower than the L mark. If yours came out of the shop with the level right in the middle of the range it was fine. That said I prefer to initially fill my engine to the H mark and then note if the level drops in use. This thread prompted me to check mine just now (in my attached garage) and it's still at the H mark after roughly 1000 - 1200 miles since the last oil change.

I would also like to add that this dipstick has a demonstrated “gotcha” in that one side of the dipstick may actually indicate a different level than the other. I won’t get into the details but it behooves you to check both sides when you do check.
You may also find it useful to sandblast or dull with fine sandpaper the end of the stick to help read very clear/ very clean oil especially synthetic.

Per Billman suggestion, I burned the dipstick tip dark with a blowtorch. Makes it much easier to read when oil is clean.
IMO, an oil change that doesn't fill to top of X's is a fail. Yes, if your level drops and is anywhere in between H and L its still good, that doesn't mean its ok for it to be like that coming out of a shop.
Its like paying for a Starbucks and they only fill the cup partway...
