I do all those same things to avoid dings, but my real obsession is avoiding curb rash on my wheels! I avoid drive-throughs and get out and look when I'm parrallel parking along a curb.
I don't even have super-pricey wheels either! It's just a wierd paranoia. I do always sit within view of my S in restaurants when possible, and have been known to sprint outside at the first sign of Ding possibility, S-hater vandelism, or suspicious-looking characters around!

I qualify!
I've never once parked my S2000 in a location that required it to be parked between 2 open spots or parked cars. I only go places that I can park up close to curb on an end spot or out in the middle of a deserted lot if no curbs are available. I also favor near street light poles in the center of parking lots because other A-holes avoid those spots that have a pole at the edge of them if there are other options. No door dings in 4 years of ownership and previous owner was equally careful!
