Default Said goodbye today....

A very sad day for me today as I traded in my '01 with 17,600 miles on it and got $22,500 for the trade-in - an excellent trade-in price for an '01. I drove out with an '03 VW Jetta GLI and paid 400 below invoice for it and they bought down my interest rate to 2.9%. My wife and I are expecting a baby next year and it is a little difficult to fit a baby seat in the S. Now we have an '03 Jetta and an '04 Acura TL. Both sweet cars, but they are no S. Damn, I loved that car, but I love my wife and new family more. Maybe I will be able to get another one later when Honda figures out how to fit a 6-cylinder with 300+ HP. Well, it was fun reading the posts on here and I learned a lot that I never would have learned anywhere else. Happy driving to all the S and former S owners.

Well, you are a man that has his priorities straight. If it were me, the TL would be the car to haul the family around, and the S2000 would STAY.

sad indeed. But that's a smart move, make the sacrifice now when it counts and then it'll be impossible for the wife to deny you another when the kids are older and there are 'no more buns in the oven'

Not been on here long enough to make your acquaintance, but all the same, wish you well.

Sorry to hear you had to give up your S. You better make freinds with the service writers at VW because you are going to see them alot. I used to work for VW and they have a ton of reliability issues.

Well, we kept the S for as long as possible, and it worked for both of us as long as there were no heavy rains. I only drove the car once in rain, and that is because I got caught in a huge thunderstorm while I was already out. Here in San Antonio, it can flood in an hour and I did not want to take a chance on screwing up the S. Prior to getting maried, I had a truck and the S. So, it was very easy then. Plus every little ding and scratch is seen because it is black. The VW reliability issues I was aware of, and after scrutinizing Consumer Reports, I am keeping my fingers crossed that VW has worked out some of the reliability issues that showed up with the previous Jettas. In fact, the '03 is the only one that CR recommends for reliability issues. It just makes it so much easier to have two practical cars while our child is young. Also, VW had to get rid of their '03s, so they sweetened the deal a lot. They don't even offer 2.9% financing, but they bought down my interest rate (about $500 out of their pocket in addition to the $400 below invoice). And yes, my wife has already agreed that we can get another one when the time is right.

Hmmm, on second thought, maybe I can return the Jetta? Don't car dealers give you 48 hours to decide? Or is it just some dealers?
