corvett's post scared me.
I am looking to spend about $500 dollars and do not want something that is easy to turn off. A friend's car got broken into with a viper and the alarm was disabled by the crooks.

i have the clifford matrix 2.5 also, and love it.
2 way alarm, get the hood switch. you will be paged (assuming you are in range, nothing is perfect.) then you can do what ya gotta do, call the cops, call your friends, take him out yourself.
it has a silent feature to page you only and not alarm the crooks, it also has a status screen on the remote to let you know if you locked your car or not (something i always forget, so it comes in handy.)
this is about the best thing in your price range.

An alarm system strength is only as strong as the installer. A skilled/experienced installer can install a 10$ alarm and still be better than a $500 one that is installed by a hack.
As for you friend that had the Viper that was disabled, it was probably easily disabled due to a simple setup by the installers.
I used to install Viper alarms, and they were by far the most reliable. The old Clifford always had probelms with getting scrammbled and needed to be "rebooted".
But, in all seriousness, if the thief really wants your car, he will get it.
