Shift boot sagging fix -- different approach
 

I have been searching about how to fix my sagging shift boot issue for a while. I tried washer zip-tie technique which works but not as clean as I wanted it to be and sometime I can hear it rattles. Since I have some free time from work I decided to design an anti-sagging shift boot holder made out of rubberized material. This is still a prototype so the underside is still quite rough but no one will see it when installed. This piece fits snug on the shifter column right under the lock nut with a tiny bit of gap (1/8") between them.

Nice fix. Very creative and doesn't alter the look after installed.
I bet you could have found something just walking around home depot that would have done the job.

I was surprised when I bought a new center console after 100k miles. The leather was so soft compared to my 10 year old one. That was partially to blame as to why it was sagging. New soft leather stays up easily.

Is it supposed to be like that from the factory? I always thought it sat just below the locking nut. Looks kinda weird with the random bulges/crevices in the leather. I got a countersunk shift-knob so the gap between the locking nut and boot collar is now gone but doesn't alter the way the boot looks.

I personally hate that boot right below the knob look. Its like the shifter is wearing a neck high dress.

Not to mention there would be no room for my hand to grab the shifter.

This fix manages to avoid that shifter ball gown look...

I bought a new shift boot from Redline. Seems like the opening is smaller than OEM, which prevents it from sagging and I prefer the look and feel of Nappa leather

Looks great! I'm definitely going Redline soon but torn between Alcantara and Nappa. Also getting the door inserts at the same time. I know the alcantara will be harder to clean but the contrasting materials might be a nice aesthetic as the car has so much black leather already.

I, too, have the Redline boot but still use the synthetic washer to hold and shape it.
