soft top problem help!!!

I came home from a trip to Florida to find that my glass came off the top. I left for 2 weeks and covered the car up when i un-covered it found this i took it too an upholstery shop the specializes in soft top repair and the owner said i would have to replace the top because it shrunk. it would cost me $1400 for labor and a robins top. 5yr warranty and 18 months of labor warranty. i don't have the money right now is there anyway around this maybe stretch or add cloth too it or something. just to get me by for a couple months till i save up.

Since you plan to replace it eventually, I suggest you getting the strongest Liquid Nail or Loctite construction glue from Lowes. You can try it in a small area first and see how well it can hold.

If I can tell correctly from the picture, the only place the top has separated is the bottom edge of the glass, an area that is not really subject to flexible stresses.

You should use a good Poly Vinyl Glue (The OEM top is vinyl-not cloth) that will stick to glass too. In this case I would recommend the same glue and primer that you use on PVC pipes. You can get that at any hardware or big box store. Don't go bananas so there is not a huge mess to try to clean up. You will need to work fast so you should practice the movements before applying the actual cement. I recommend somehow supporting the glass, so it is solid and won't move, in order to apply the glue and press the fabric in position for at least a minute as it sets. You may have to do it in sets. If you get any color bleeds from the glue, just mask and paint it.

There is some professional glue (photo bucket is inop for me) that is 2 part and made for PVC Hyperion that is unreal in adhesive qualities. The downside is it runs about $50. ( Check with inflatable boat repair, I used it on my Zodiac with MEK as a prep and WWIII will not separate the fabric on this one)

If the glue option doesn't work, You should be able to get a new Robbins top for ~$500. After doing one myself, it's pretty intuitive and not very difficult as a DIY. There are a few write-ups that walk you through it and if you are somewhat mechanically inclined you will be fine.
