i'm not a fan of the boxster, just because you can get the same out of an s2000 for about 1/3 of the price, but that comment makes no sense.

I am sure that you will end to the conclusion that the S is a raw street fighter with an awesome appearance & behaviour but on the other hand the BOXTER comes from a highborn family with sport character and more emphasise in luxury and confort.

Again with the S, just have in mind that the combination of that steering wheel (2,4 t to t), that gearbox and that stiff chassis (convertible!!) is hard to find to far more expensive sport cars.

I remember an add in Greece for the S back in '99 that said ''Buy an S2000 because any better costs at least the double''

Here are my initial impressions, but I have only had the S2000 2 days!

In terms of looks, the new '04 version has as nice or even nicer than the Boxster and I have had more head turns in this than my Boxster. In the area I live the Boxster is 10 a penny and you see them everywhere!

You also get 3 times the amount of equipment as standard on the S2000.

The silverstone Metallic (a bit like the Porsche GT silver) is a great colour, not your standard 'run of the mill' silver you see everywhere and the black and read leather seats look superb.

The build quality on both if exceptional as you would expect, the only cheap looking bit I would say on the S2000 is the sun visors and the stereo is not exciting, but it is hidden behind the new silver panel.

I prefer the smaller steering wheel on the S2000, the Boxsters was large and didn't feel sporty enough, more luxury.

In terms of engine note it is a difficult one, I had the upgraded sports exhaust on the Boxster and that had a great sound, but the new exhaust system on the '04 S2000 is a major improvement on the '01 model. The S2000 has a more raw moterbike engine note, which passers by really notice!

In terms of perfromance without stating the obvious the Boxster is a bit of an allrounder and the S2000 kind of has 2 modes, normal or mental!!! But I will find this out more as I break the car in (nothing much over 5000 rpm for first 500 miles).

I like the short shift gear box on the honda over tbe Boxster's.

Oh and the new alloys are a major improvement.

Coco.

It takes an hour or so to get used to as there is such a difference, but once you get used to it I must admit it is the best gear box I have ever used.

Also, how fast is the roof??? Much faster than the Boxsters. Plus the rear glass pannel is a major bonus, I had the plastic one in the Porka and I always had to get out and fold it at the half way stage to keep it in perfect condidtion (I am a bit precious of my cars!).

Enjoy your new car! I agree about the terrible visor covers. They don't belong in a car like this. I would suggest checking out "Rick's Accessories", a site sponser here. In the Townsend leather section, there are custom-fit leather visor covers that really add a nice touch to the interior!

Congrats on the new car! Great color choice, it was my second favorite.

I come from a very similar situation. I sold my 2003 Boxster 2.7 for the '04 S2000.
The two things I miss the most about the Boxster are the exhaust note, it had a wonderful exotic sound, not that the S is bad just different. I also like the way the Boxster top folded away without the need to fiddle with an additional cover to give a clean look. Boxster was certainly a fun car.

But the S has a lot going for it. It certainly feels faster than my base Boxster did. It handles just as well if not better. I'm taking it to Pocono raceway in July, so I'll find out for sure then. I like the fact that most people don't know what this car is, and I get a lot more positive reactions from it. I think with the P-car a lot of people felt like look at that snob in his Porsche, even though it's their cheapest model. Not a worry in a Honda. I like the fact that an oil change will cost me 20 bucks, not 200. My car payment is $300 a month LOWER. I see far fewer S's on the road than I do Boxsters. Still, both are great cars, but the Honda offers an amazing amount of enjoyment for relatively small dollars. If you think you like the car now, just wait until you pass the break-in period Enjoy!

I test drove a 2.7 Boxster last year and really enjoyed it. The mid-engine layout not only makes for an exceptionally responsive front end, it also sounds great winding up behind your head!
I only took it up to 6200 rpm (redline's 7200 but the car was new) -- acceleration seemed nice and smooth, and there was a "bit" more down-low torque than my '02.
At the end, I decided the S2000 is just a more raw, exciting machine, which is why I bought it in the first place.
Good luck and happy driving to all the Porsche owners, past and present!

I agree, the reaction I get from people tends to be better in the Honda as they are not as aware of them or think that I am some rich kid! In the UK the Boxster has developed a bit of a 'hairdresser' image whereas the S2000 is perceived quite well. People tend to be less jealous as well and just assume you like fun cars (which is true). In my Boxster I had it keyed twice, both Porsche badges stolen and someone scraped it in a car park and didn't leave a note. Fingers crossed for the new car! Plus I am going to save loads of money on maintenance as the Boxster cost me a fortune.

I did love my Boxster though and I would never advise against someone buying one, they are great cars, just different. You just have to ask yourself if you want a luxury sports car, or a raw driving machine.

I am going to persuade the missus to get a Civic Type R, then I can have 2 toys!
