Default This sound OK?

Hey Guys,

Just bought a new S2000 Its my first one and Ive been after one for ages! Well chuffed with it! The only thing Im worried about is now Ive got it home, it has a kinda rattly sound to the engine.... Not like a knock as such, just a kinda rattle...

Ive put a video on youtube which you can hopefully hear the noise on. I was slightly worried about the bottom end as Ive heard horror stories of how this can let go if the car has been starved of oil... and when I took the car for a test drive its oil level was slightly below the L :S

Anyway, here is the vid. Is this what your S2ks sound like or is mine a one off?? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys!

Sounds like it could be the timing chain tensioner to me which I recall can be a known problem caused low oil. At the same time, it's also a problematic part for the S2k regardless.

Simple fix and a $100 part as long as it doesnt start doing it on the new one.

Mine is doing that occasionally (mostly on cold startups). It'll be the second time I've replaced it, once I get around to it.

I only hear two sounds. First is probably your air intake and the second is the tickings. The tickings is normal. I hear can hear mine too.

Yeah, that sounds exactly like mine. So what's the verdict? Is this normal or is this the start of the TCT going bad?

It Sounds like a tractor. So does mine. I revel in it as I idle out of the infield back towards the track. Sometimes I grab a weed, chew on it, and pretend I'm pulling a plow.

Thanks for all your replies guys!

I will take another video soon as I can re the wind and get it up later tonight. Really relieved that you all seem to think its either the timing chain tensioner or its normal!

Regardless Ill get that hood open vid tonight. You cant hear it out of the top of the engine tho. Seems to come out the bottom.
