hi guys i would apprecieate some info on some aftermarket springs.

1) what is wrong with the h&r race springs i have not heard of one person installing the things?
2) do the comptec adj. springs add to performace or are they just srtictly cosmetic, if not do they worsen the handling?
3) if i do get new springs would i have to get shocks that would compliment them? and if i dont get new shocks will the stock ones last with the new springs?
4) what other spring options do i have (note i am avoiding coilover systems) can you guys suggest some other brands?

1-2. Dunno.
3. Yes and no. For optimal performance, yeah you'll want matched springs and shocks. But no, your car will be ok with just springs and can still handle better than stock. Just beware that generally your shocks will wear out quite a bit faster on lowering springs. As far as how long they last, I don't think anyone knows yet, but I've got about 12000 on my stock shocks with HKS springs and they're still fine.
4. I'm happy with my HKS springs. lowered the front 27 mm and rear 29 mm. Front spring rate is 5.1 kg/mm and rear is 6.5 kg/mm. I wouldn't go any lower - this is already low enough that I have trouble getting in/out of most driveways and can't get in/out of some.

I installed KG/mm racing springs on my car and they are great. They are dual rate so the ride is not jarring at all. They lower the car 1.27 inches all around. I think there was a previous thread about them. I like them!

I think they are the lowest springs out there for the s2k. If you have a problem with height then I think these might be too low. KG/mm make supersport springs that lower the car 15 mm. I just don't think that will make a noticable difference. The racing springs look great. The car looks significantly lowered without looking "crazy". Tires are just below the fender.

Just my opinion.

I have emailed Neuspeed about their sport springs rate and they told me 280 lb/in up front and 215lb/in in the rear. I believe the stock spring rate is 200lb/in up front and 275lb/in in rear. Why does Neuspeed put stiffer springs in front and a pair of way softer springs in rear???

Did u order ur springs from AJ racing?? i'm interested in those springs, but i'm deciding between full coilovers or just springs..

 

The Comptech springs IMO look awesome and , according to my installer, is very well made. This shop "By Design" works mostly on porsches and ferraris and they said it was one of the easiest springs they ever install. With an 1" drop (minimum) and slightly wider tires, you should see some improvements in an already great handling car. On a local twistie that i use almost everyday, there's been a noticeable decrease in braking and downshifting. You'll also get a more aggresive stance and a few more scrapes than before, especially with any front/side spoilers.

 

Yep I ordered them at AJ. Total cost was 400 plus gst plus 37 bucks for shipping. I think it was money well spent. A complete coil-over set is a little too expensive for me to do. I am not going to do serious racing so I think the springs are just fine.

T.O.-S2K, I'm thinking about getting the same springs. How long have you had them? Any uneven tread wear? That's the only thing that's holding me back from getting springs. I like the fact that they're dual rate.

 

I have only had them for a week. I will keep you guys posted on the long term effects of the springs. The one good thing is that my stock rims look a lot bigger now
