This is smart. Clutch pressure is constantly squeezing oil out of thrust washer bearing. Plus its a clear path for gravity to pull it out as well. So all that time sitting it'll be dry. Straight firing up would be awful for it.

There are ways to do bypass that retain idiotproofedness. Such as bypass it to brake pedal (requires relay).

Sorry for the naïve question, but you have the transmission in neutral, right?

I recall starting my parents' Toyota manual when it was in gear, and the car tried to drive itself through the carport wall. Not quite idiot proof, but I reacted quickly and learned to pay closer attention to the selected gear before starting.

Trans in neutral...and yes, if you leave it in gear, hit the start button, it will ventilate your garage wall to great embarrassment.

With the BRZ I can hold the throttle pedal to the floor and the engine will spin without firing, I hold it long enough to pressurize the oiling system. I don't know if the Honda S2000 AP2 DBW models had that feature ? , I know the Ap1 and Ap2 cable operated throttle engines did not do that.

It is really simple and practical.
