Stock Miata vs Stock S2K
ok so i just picked up my s2k about a week ago. there is a guy at work that drives a supercharged miata and apparently i heard throught the grapevine (people telling me this is what he said) that a stock miata can take out a stock s2k at the track. i am not too sure what generation he is talking about but if i had to guess and its an eduacated one, it would be the 97 with the 1.8 liter. Does anyone care to shed light on this or have any feedback or should I have used the search function?!?!? Oh wait... I think its broken!!!!

I used to own a 2001 Miata and now have an AP1. I can tell you without a doubt that a stock Miata cannot beat an S2000 on any track. I even test drove a 1997 Miata with a supercharger and I can tell you too that it will not beat the S2000. This is the reason why I now own an S2000 and did not modify my Miata.

Depending on the gearing of the Miata, if its stock I think you can take it. He might top out at around 144mph and you can go up 157mph. I tested a 97 Miata with an coldside MP62 (FastForward Supercharger) and there is no question my AP1 can take it.

97 miata weighs a LOT more than 2100 lb. (more like to 2400-2500), but with 190rwhp will have a significant power/weight advantage over a 2850 lb. AP2 with 205 rwhp.

stock to stock - no chance.
on the track stock Miata have not much grip, weak brakes and it overheats like crazy.
FI'ed with wide sticky tires and buffed up systems and body bracing - this will be interesting.
big advantage of Miata though is a lot of fun at low (safe) speeds.

Your thread title is about stock to stock then you introduce the fact of "supercharged" and then the topic is not about stock to stock. You should have learned a long time ago that people have pride in their cars and refuse to admit that it is not all that they think it is. Try telling someone a realistic price for their car and that is a quick way to lose your friends xD. I don't have the heart to tell my friend with a 2000 s2000 selling it his '00 with 120k miles and tears on the interior and has some problems he admits it isn't worth 12k. I told my friend with a '92 foxbody his car wasn't worth 6k and he called me an ass and stopped talking to me, quick way to lose a friend. (160k miles, had non stop problems left and right, he is going to UTI for college to be a mechanic but refuses to talk to me still)
Point is, almost everyone will argue their car is better than it is, it is those who admit their faults that can improve upon them.
