stupid maint req'd light
So my light came on and I went to reset it according to the book and the damn thing won't turn off.
Am I missing a step?
1. Put key to lock and press the trip reset button.
2. Turn car on and continue to hold trip reset button until light turns off.
3. ...
4. Profit.
I have done it like that every time in the past but this time around, not so much.
Any input?

Make sure the headlights aren't on. Sometimes that screws with the cluster from clearing the light. Drive it around the block and try again. I've dealt with a few cars that just didn't want to reset right away.

good luck
to the op - i tried a few times once and it didn't work, so i started thinking maybe i wasn't holding the button down firmly enough. so i grabbed a pen to push it in, and it worked right away. that may help, i dunno.

i agree with slows2k, try doing this without the headlights on, i have been working in the general repair business for 8 years and have never run across this until today. i couldn't get the light to reset on a 2004 civic and lo and behold it was because the headlights were on.
