Default stupid maint req'd light

So my light came on and I went to reset it according to the book and the damn thing won't turn off.

Am I missing a step?
1. Put key to lock and press the trip reset button.
2. Turn car on and continue to hold trip reset button until light turns off.
3. ...
4. Profit.

I have done it like that every time in the past but this time around, not so much.

Any input?

don't worry the bulb will inevitably burn itself out, so, it's a self correcting problem...

Make sure the headlights aren't on. Sometimes that screws with the cluster from clearing the light. Drive it around the block and try again. I've dealt with a few cars that just didn't want to reset right away.

I figured there was something little that could be messing with it. I'll try that tomorrow and see what happens.
Thanks I knew someone from the AL would come through!

good pull! i was trying to remember why that sounded familiar!

to the op - i tried a few times once and it didn't work, so i started thinking maybe i wasn't holding the button down firmly enough. so i grabbed a pen to push it in, and it worked right away. that may help, i dunno.

i agree with slows2k, try doing this without the headlights on, i have been working in the general repair business for 8 years and have never run across this until today. i couldn't get the light to reset on a 2004 civic and lo and behold it was because the headlights were on.

I was thinking the same thing but Slow can vouch for me on this: I am stupid skinny. Maybe I am skinny but have ham fingers.
