Smile They want to remove my front bumper

Car is a few weeks old , when taking out the stupid dealer front plate , I discovered the the the mounting threads on one side were loose and were not flush to the body . This inmediatedly prevents the placement of one of the bumper plugs since they are pressure fitted . South Motors Honda in the "magic city" (Miami) told me that they would have to remove the entire bumper in order to correct this flaw . So what do you guys think , should I let Honda do this or should I find another way to put this tiny piece of blue colored polycarbonate $3.00 piece ?

Best Regards

Jose

Don't do it! Try to figure another way to fix it.

I can almost guarantee that you will find more damage after the dealer works on it.

The same thing happened to me -- one of the nuts (or whatever they are) in there fell in. I pushed the other one in and then just glued the plugs on (because I knew I was moving from a no-front-plate state to another). I asked about it here and was told not to worry, the parts would rattle around for a while and eventually fall out.

Taking off the bumper is a fairly big deal to do yourself, and you can bet a Honda shop will charge an arm and a leg. If they'll do it completely under warranty, that makes it more worthwhile, but Pete's right: they could well screw something up.

So I'd suggest you do what I did. I think I used Superglue (and my flame suit is on, so have at it, you purists). HPH

If AP2 bumpers are anything like AP1 bumpers it so simple a monkey could do it. There is virtually nothing to mess up, and if you want do it yourself.

the bolt plate is held on with small plastic nipples and press fitted lock washers. they must have pushed too hard when they put the plate on but it does not take much to move them. I'm not sure how toget at them without pulling the bumper. perhaps put a scre in it and pull it up?

I wouldnt bother removing the bumper unless you plan on actually using a front plate later on down the line (if dealer is covering the repairs). If dealer doesnt cover it, just glue it.. you can always remove the bumper later.

A dab of shoe goo (any sporting goods store) will do the trick. or you can try household silicon (home depot/hardware store). stay way from strong adhesives, as it may make the plug a bit more permanent that you want it to be...

This is what I would try first before going for another option. See if you can gently thread in the bolt that is used to hold the plate frame on and try to reseat the washer onto the nipple by pulling on the bolt. However, if the nipple is broken, you're SOL.

I appreciate the suggestions from all you guys , and I think that I will try a less invasive procedure such as the shoe goo or trying to pull the threads by the hole before I take it to honda for surgery. By the way I had the car at the dealer today as they were going to do this but they were not able to get to it !

Best Regards to all my s2000 brothers (and sisters)

Same thing's wrong with mine. I tried to just pull the threading back out, but it didn't work. I took it to my local dealership, they took off the bumper, and were going to try to warranty the bumper for me. They would have had to get a brand new bumper because of the 'welding'.

But, the dealership I bought it from (out-of-state) offered to pay a local body shop to fix it. I just need to bring it in.
