Default Tips to protect my new car on its long drive home from the dealer

I am picking up my new '03 from Colorado and driving it home to California next weekend. I will not be able to get a clear bra before I leave. Therefore, are there any methods of keeping the rock dings and sand blast to a minumum? I don't care if the methods look stupid as long as the car gets home in as good as shape as possible. Someone I was talking to remembers reading about some kind of gel to protect from sand blast but he can't find the details.

Thanks

You could go to a local decal shop and pick up large sheets of vinyl sticker that match the color of your car and just stick it on for the drive home. Use a heatgun or hair dryer to remove it easily when you come home.

- just tell the dealer leave the wrapper(s) on...
- secure it with some blue tape..

The best method is not to tailgate.

And I hope you're not coming to get it tomorrow or Friday, because it's forcasted to snow till Sunday. Which means all kinds of gravel and mag chloride fun!

You might look into having your S shipped from CO to CA.

Go get the blue masking tape at Home Depot - no glue residue if removed within 24-48 hours.

yea, maybe try that blue painter's tape that they use for #s and the headlight.

oh, and fwiw, if you're trying on the highway make sure to vary your rpms...it's not good to break in your car at constant rpm.

Tip 1 - don't crash into things

Tip 2 - don't drive off a cliff

A buddy of mine has a 944 Turbo that he occasionally takes to the track. Since there are no clear bra options for that car, he uses some kind of wax that he paints on before hitting the track, and washes off with the hose when he's done. He said it drys with a greyish haze, but it protects the paint. I don't know exactly what the product is called, but ask around, somebody else has got to know.
