For two new RE730's (only). They say it is not safe, their policy, blah blah. The guy was unmoved when I told him about the number of people who had done this, research that I had done on this forum, the huge amount of tread left on the fronts, etc. Has anyone else had this experience? Are they just trying to cover their rear or sell two more tires?

Oh yeah, he didn't like the size, either (245/45/16) though that is what I have seen other forum members use.

I just ordered 4 of those tires for my secretary's 89 Legend coupe (260K miles and still tight and quick). I don't think they're really suitable for the S2000. Tirerack knows their tires, I'd listen to them. If you want to ignore their advice, just order them from their website, and take your chances.

I did order from the website. Then the guy called me up and said he wouldn't sell them to me.

thats dumb. Reorder and tell them its for a different car.

My rear S02s were worn out, but like many others here, the fronts are only about half gone. I opted to go with the Michelin Pilots on the rear. I asked the folks at Discount tire about using two different brands and they told me as long as the same tires were on the same "axle" handling would not be significantly affected. I don't autocross or track the car, so I'm not too worried. When the Bridgestone fronts are worn out, I'll put the pilots on the front as well.

Which flavor of Michelin Pilots did you get, and what size for the rear?

There is a BIG difference between the sidewall stiffness of the S-02 and 730 not to mention overall grip. Putting 730s on the back only will probably result in a very uncontrollable car with the tail end VERY (read dangerously) loose.

I had a similar situation with the RE-010 and the RE-71 on my MR-2. Totally undriveable! I took two turns and went right back to the store to have the '71's removed. The back was "wiggling" around while the front stayed planted. Do you know the feeling of driving on a flat? The tire slid around while the tread is on the road. VERY weird. IMO either do a 4 tire change or get another set of S-02s (or equivelent ultra HP tire) for the rear.

Before you ask, I did not mix tires on the S2000, I learned my lesson from the MR-2. I did use one set of RE-730s for about 5 months at which point they were all used up! I now have Kumho 712s and while they're holding up well, they are seriously lacking in grip and squeel at the slightest provocation. You can't have your cake and eat it to ;)

Yeah, I'm on the verge of recovering from the cheapskate fever and ordering a set of S-02's for the rear. My only concern was that the wet performance of these things (S-02 rears) gets so bad as soon as the tread gets low.

Just like everyone on the board here said, call Conner at Tirerack. My fronts are in great shape, all I needed was rears. I had them shipped to my dealer, (fairfax honda) and they put them on for 20 bucks.

So far its a huge improvement......
