Towing your S2000
 

Is anyone here towing your S2K behind a motorhome on a dolly? If so, do you take the drive line out or let it roll? Is there any harm to the trans with letting it turn in neutral without the engine running?

You should be using a vehicle transport not a dolly...

I asked about a similar question last year and got a wide variety of answers. Honda's official recommendation is to flat-bed tow the S. A few people chimed in saying that they had installed a tow bar and flat towed the S without any noticeable damage to anything. I think the worry is that the differential cannot withstand the tow factors, yet I may be off-base. Do a search for towing the S. There are fairly recent and older threads on this topic.

The 6-speed transmission also have a small oil pump inside.
Will this pump run and lubricate moving parts in the gearbox correctly when the car is towed? I dont know.
The workshop manual did not describe the function of this little pump in deep.

The manual has a section on towing and says repeatedly to only tow it on a flat bed. It lists some methods of towing where you can determine why it's bad but doesn't mention every option.

Of the last few cars I've had, the only one that was safe to tow behind an RV (as in, the manufacturer didn't seem to have issue) was the Wrangler - and I think it's because you can disengage the drive train because it's a mechanically linked 4x4... you can put that selector in neutral.

I like that option, yet towing a trailer behind the motorhome brings in new challenges. I would not want to back up the rig with a trailer on it. It's another piece of road equipment that needs a license and renewals, yet it could be an option. Others have traveled extensively in the S, alone, so maybe the motorhome is not needed.

Looks like a lot of tongue weight when you're up far enough to get the door open. Also, no way to tie it down. I wish Uhaul sold their transport trailers.

I will be full time living in the MH and don't want to give up the S2000. I will also have a MC lift on the back bumper.

The towing the manual refers to is to a repair shop and is related to body clearances and possible hook/cable damage and dragging the back end.
