Trying to estimate how many S2000s remain

Hey guys. I was doing some research and found some interesting data regarding US crash ratings and S2000s. Please note that I am not claiming this to be accurate in any way, just a fun approximation.

Using data from 2013 through the IIHA and IHS, there were roughly 253 million cars registered in the United States. There were roughly 5,687,000 reported total loss accidents in the United States. With this, we can find the average rate of cars being totaled (in 2013).
So 5.687/253=2.25% of cars are totaled on average.
The IIHS reports that 162% more S2000s are totaled versus the average (using 2004-2006 models - I could average them all together but it floats around 165-175% across all years)
So that means around 3.465% of S2000s are totaled each year, on average, in the USA since its release.
The famous chart on S2Ki says that there are 66,860 S2000s made for the USDM.
Compounded yearly @ 3.465% loss from 2000-2017, we are left with ~36,758 S2000s from the total amount produced.

Thoughts?

I'm sure a lot of the totaled S2000's have been fixed and have rebuilt titles. Then there are those that are used for tracks only.

, there are Dozens of Crashed s2k's up at auction.
So every week they are sold and then new auction cars come up. dozens new every couple weeks, just of s2ks
I found one close to me at auction and won it and fixed it. I have a thread on it, and now my car is for sale and I am not hiding anything.

I also did this with an SVX, only 14,500 SVX ever came to US soil. ONly 760 '97 last model year were ever made. I found one at auction and fixed and saved it. Still have it. not many SVX are left, much less than s2k

these types of cars follow a trend, and prices ONLY go up for the non-modded ones. Same as my 2 crx si the price only goes up cause they are oem stock

last week a CR even showed up on auction wrecked….

I wonder how many one owner, accident free, all original paint cars are left? Mine falls in this bucket, 15 years and counting since I bought it new...

I agree. I guess we could change this post to how many CLEAN title S2000s remain.

I'd say a very small number still do. Mine falls in there aside from the one-owner :D

I'm not sure to apply the math. The model predicts 43% of S2000s have been written off with 38K of 67K of the US cars remaining.

Time for you statistics majors to do some work! :)

So if the original owner dies, does the second owner become one owner?

The compounding loss seems off. It's ~3.6% per the remaining population per year, so the loss should flatten out significantly over time.

Its such a bummer that they don't make this car anymore. My plan is to buy a second one when I see the right one come up for sale. I'm going to save it for when I retire or just in case something happens to my current car.
