^Then why did they discontinue it worldwide after MY07? Not to mention, the single best-selling model year was 2002 -- when Silverstone was unavailable.

All good fun of course. I've been around since the beginning, and driven a whole bunch of S2000s, and I can tell you: the best color S2000 was always the one I was driving at that moment.

VIN's
VIN's tell a lot about a car and since the S2000 is a relatively low production car with few options I was able to compile a list of all potential VIN's. All S2000 VIN's will start with JHMAP#1 - this says they are Japan Honda Motors, AP1 or AP2, manual transmission). The next digit will be a 4 for base trim models and 2 for CR. The next digit is a check digit calculated from the the digits in the vin. This is then followed by the model year, production plant (T for Tochigi or S for Suzuka), then serial #.

I've seen several MY 00 that have a letter instead of a 0 for the year, did you take this into account?

^MY00 VINs have "Y" instead of "0" to indicate the model year.

Ok, so the Y takes the place of the 0. I have also noticed that for MY06 (maybe others, haven't checked) some of the VINs have an X instead of the even series/odd series check digit; such as JHMAP214X6S001875
Were those accounted for in this chart?

Check digit is a base 11 number, with X=10. Put another way, the calculation of the check digit can result in any of the 11 values 0,1,2..9,10, but when the result is 10 they use the symbol X instead.

Don't worry, the OP understood all of this.

Sounds good, just trying to clear up the mystery of the missing VINS. I still want to know the TRUTH though. Can't we get Honda to release the official number? Seems like they should have done that by now!

You mean the occasional VINs that show up as invalid on Honda's site? Those are just chassis that for one reason or another were never offered for sale to the public (early-production test/demo cars, quality control failures, etc). I think if you asked Honda for the total # of U.S. cars by model year, they'd do exactly what the OP did - query the database for all valid VINs! So these pretty much ARE the official production numbers.

My buddy and I both have 06 BB with red and black interior. I don't think they are rare, just wondering why nothing came up on the list.
