Default Using Oil

I just got my new S2k about 6 weeks ago. I have put about 2,200 miles on it. I have been checking the oil and have watched it slowly go down. It is now about 1 "X" from the low mark. I talked to my dealer's service department about this and they told me this was normal and not to add any oil to it. They said it has "break-in oil" in it. I asked them if I could get some "break-in oil" from them and they said no, only the manufacturer has it and to come back to them when the level was on the "L". At the rate it is using oil, I don't believe I will make it to 3,750 miles.

Does this sound right? Is it OK to run the car at this Oil level? Anybody have a similiar issue with a solution?

The person at the dealership is wrong to tell you not to add oil. Add a premium 10W30 conventional motor oil to bring the level to full.

yes, you need to keep the oil level at the proper place...
no, you cant get more "break-in oil"- just use the proper type (make sure that it has the right cleaning traits as explained in the owners manual).

Your oil usage is just like mine. However, I add a little more oil every time the top X is exposed (I check it weekly). It's best not to let it go too close to low.

Like everyone says, use standard API starburst "SL" energy conserving 10W30 oil to top off with. All the break in chemicals will still be there doing there job.

Check your oil at every fillup and top it off. I went through 2.5-3.5 quarts during my first 4k miles. Keep an eye on it.

There is no issue IMO. Analysis of the so called break-in oil shows it simply has a high level of Molybdenum. An engine with new short block that was built using moly assembly lube and then filled with regular motor oil would likely test the same.

Thanks for the information.

By the way, I called the dealership and told them I was getting close to "L". They told me to bring it in so they could check the engine. I asked them what they would do and they said something about an engine compression check. Would take about 4 hours.

I am going to get some oil tonight and top it off.
