weight

anyone know why the S weighs so much more than the miata or elise? they are all about the "same size." is it the sheet metal, the frame, the power top? if the S had all aluminum body panels like the nsx, how much would it weigh?

SCREW ALUMINUM! MAKE IT ALL CARBON FIBER LIKE THIS ONE AND IT WILL ONLY WEIGH 2150!! Eat that miata fans

the 2005 MazdaSpeed MX-5 weighs 296 pounds less than the 2005 S2000. I know they put a ton of weight saving techniques into the new mx-5's, and 300 pounds doesn't seem alot seeing our engine is almost half a liter bigger, the car is alot more solid, and alot bigger all around (7 inches longer).

i used to own a 99 miata. it weighed 2299 pounds. It did not have the roll hoops or as much rollover material to protect. The doors were smaller and didn't sound so thick. 1.8L engine compared to 2.0L. single exhaust. Alot less material under the hood, as well. 15" wheels and softer tires.

miata's are tiny compared to S2000's.

My racing only S2000 weighed 2400lbs with the rollcage and bumper beams and hardtop.... it is pretty hard to drop more weight out of the S2000 without spending a bunch of $

wow, how did u drop that weight and what did it drive like compared to stock?

Eluded Dec 30, 2005 01:21 PM

2680 lbs (+/- 20lbs) without jack and the racing light on.

200 pounds is relatively easy to get out of the car and still have it look stock. With a little ingenuity and money, the car will perform much better.

what can we do to drop that weight? exhaust, headers flywheel, etc?
