Default What is this "clutch buzz"?

Hey guys,

In the market to buy an S2K, but I keep hearing this "clutch buzz" stuff...what is it, what does it mean, what can be done about it?

Thanks,

Dump the clutch at redline and stand on the brake. As the cabin fills with the sweet smell of burning clutch, breathe in deeply and hold it as long as you can. Within a few seconds you'll feel that awesome "clutch buzz" coming on strong.

I'm pretty sure I have a case of the clutch buzz. It's pretty annoying.

The "clutch buzz" is a defect in '00-'01 S2000's. It sounds exactly like an exhaust heat shield rattling between 4k and 3k rpm. The difference is that a heat shield will rattle as you accelerate from 3k to 4k rpm and then again as you decellerate through that rpm range. The "clutch buzz" only happens when decellerating.

The noise does no harm, other than making your car sound like a Yugo or maybe like a GM product from their worst period; I got tired of people asking me, "What's wrong with your car?" and replaced the clutch disk. Others choose to live with it.
