I have those "backwards mud-flap aero-dynamic thingamabobs" in the front of my front tires and in the front of my rear tires.

I have a new '03 and I have them in front of the front wheels. Noticed them for the first time this morning too.

The "backward mudflap thingamabobs" are called Spats. They are for redirecting the air from around the wheels. At high speeds they help stabilize the car.

You should have them front AND rear. This is an item that the dealer puts on during PDI. If you don't have them on all four corners then you need to make a trip to the dealer and find out what happened to them.

I wish there was something behind the tire to protect the body from rock chip damage.

Hope this cleared things up.

Yup the dealer should install these prior to delivery on model years.

If you don't have them, check to make sure they removed the spring spacers. Who knows what else they missed!

Honda calls them front and rear wheel STRAKES, not to be confused with the optional $500 (way cheaper thru H&A) side strakes. They allegedly move air more efficiently around the wheels.

It was night when I picked up my new S2K at Capitol Honda in San Jose. The front wheel strakes had been installed but the rears were still in the factory plastic bag in the trunk. Since Capitol's shop was closed, I took them home and installed them myself with "special Honda" self-tapping screws. The real screwing came when my local dealership, Val Strough Honda, charged me $12 for six screws - I hadn't bought the car there and couldn't remember my vin number! A thousand curses upon their mothers mustaches...
