Yeah 02 is Sebring silver which I want. Silverstone for the other and I've seen so many of those.

well, the center console is NOT leather...it's padded vinyl. Still better than the carpet, though. Leather console covers are not expensive (I added blue leather to my MY02, in fact), so if the 00 has been upgraded with a glass top, I'd consider that.

Plus, it's a friend, and you can be sure that he/she will be honest about the car.


All of the other things, like the leather on the shift knob, is a cheap ebay auction away. I have 2 leather-wrapped knobs on my end table, in fact. The tweeters in the door on the MY02 are crap. The housings are cheap to buy and you'll want to add your own tweeters anyway.

It's probably worth having/upgrading to the banjo bolts, but the MY02 MIGHT have them. They can be retro-fitted to the MY00. The My02 could be on it's first top, and the MY00 is on it's second so it may be in better shape.

Just in case it wasn't clear...get the MY00. I had a MY01 before, and it was more visceral than my current MY02 or my old MY03. I miss it actually.

Someone correct me, but doesn't the MY00 have the clutch buzz that was fixed for 02-03?

Clutch buzz was a warranty fix and a prior owner would have had the fixed. Clutch buzz should not be an issue to anyone on this board any longer. It was caused by a poorly designed clutch that was upgraded and should have been retro fitted into all affected cars.

I know I own a '00 so take my input with a grain of salt.
Reasons to buy an '02 over the '00 are this:
1- glass rear window.
2- upgraded stereo/tweeters
3- vinyl covered console
4- easier to control at the limit
5- everyone seems to think it is the best year for AP1

Reasons not to buy an '02 over this '00:
1- you have a retro fitted glass rear window
2- you can buy a leather console cover (I did) for cheap
3- you will want to upgrade the 02's stereo anyway
4- the '00 may have a better collectibility factor in the future
5- it has more miles than the '00 (read more abuse)

I feel like I just took an exam. If you like one color more buy that one. Mileage has reached over 100k on some S2000s so don't worry about that.

Alright thanks a lot for the input. Price got lowered to 11.5k for the 02.. Seller seems like she really wants to get rid of it. I might buy it this week.

If you trust your friend, go for his, assuming it's been taken care of, especially if it has the glass top. Like everyone else said, the console, the shift knob, etc, they can be changed for pretty cheap.
I have an 01 with a glass window, leather shift knob, and console cover, oh yeah, and I have clutch buzz.
