Hi. I used to own a 2004 S and because of the suspension revisions I never experienced much oversteer. However, I think I did experience a touch of understeer.

Now, with a new 2006, after only putting on a few miles on it so far, I think the VSA removes all understeer. I can't think of why I would want to ever turn it off. It's nice to be able to, but I can't see why one would want to disable it.

Can those with more knowledge explain the ins and outs of VSA?

 

i guess whenever you want to have some fun to drift around you would turn the VSA off? thats what i do.

 

In my RX-8 I would turn it off to kick the ass out a little in a corner. With it on the car would just hunker down whenever I tried to get loose.

 

I dont know what the in's and out's are but I never had it on since the day I owned it.

 

Dont quote me on this but im pretty sure it utilizes the abs to contorol traction issues, dont know if it powers the engine down in any way at the same time but it might, and if it does it's not very noticable. my friends 03 svt cobra( though alot more power) uses the brakes and powers the engine down quite violent( about throws you through the wind shield haha. I use VSA when it's wet or here recently being colder down to freezing mark here in Kentucky at night those bridgestones dont like cold roads. I turn it off when im driving spirited.

 

I don't see why anyone would turn it off on the road. Shouldn't be sliding your car around in public roads anyways.

 

You can "slide" without ever leaving your lane... on public roads.

I'd constantly be triggering the traction control if I had VSA. On 90 degree left hand turns, I like to throttle oversteer to make the turn-in sharper.

Tight U-turns, I'll slide the back around to avoid needing to 3-point turn.

I "break" traction a lot.

But I only drive the S2000 on dry days and would definitely turn VSA on when cold or wet.

One time that VSA can get you in trouble is if it's a little slippery and you're trying to make a left-hand turn. If there's throttle cut-out, it can leave you bogging and stuck in the intersection while oncoming traffic approaches.

 

off is for when you want to have some fun.

on is when its raining or when you want to go from point a to b.

 

although I'm sure I'll try with out VSA on mine some day, I've had it about 3 months, 25 days, 17 hours and 11 minutes now, and I still haven't felt a need to.




I like the way the car feels so neutral with it. It also sticks to the road like a leech!!!

If I feel the need for speed sometime when I have enough room to safely risk hanging the tail out, then I'll turn it off.
