Why won't Pre '06 Seats fit in an '06
#11
I think the solution might be easy, but I'm not sure if it's doable. The seat rails obviously have to stay with the car for the airbag. The driver seats can swap no problem. For the passenger seat though, I would imagine you could swap the top portions of the seat by taking it apart, then unbolting the cushion from the base and swapping it AP1/2 cushion. Worst case scenario is that you take the leather off the bottom portion and swap it with the leather off the old seat. You'll need some hog pins and plyers but it shouldn't be a hard job.

no, the seats would end up with the same leather. I'm just saying that since you obviously have to leave the seat rails in the 06, to take the seat apart and swap it with the AP2 seats in sections. To do that, you would have to separate the cushion from the seat rails on the 06 or if that can't be done, the swap the leather part with the AP2.
In other words, take the seat back off the 06 and swap it with the 05. Then, remove the leather off the seat bottom (or remove the whole cushion leaving the rails) of the 06 and swap it with the 05. In the end, the seats are whole again in looks, but the 06 seat rails and whatever else is needed for the airbag is still in the 06.

One other point to consider when trying to put a non-'06 passenger seat in an '06: the end of the seatbelt is attached to the *seat* and not the floorpan as in earlier models (or the '06 driver's side, for that matter).
So if you fabricated something that let you put a different seat in the car, you'd still have no place to mount the seatbelt end. It's certainly possible to address that issue as well, but I personally tend to be a little leery of making many modifications to things like seat belts and airbags...

The driver's side will fit, it is the passenger's side that will not. They changed the floor pan of the car to only allow the new seat to fit. You know, add a bump here. The reason is that they added a weight sensor to the passenger's seat to turn on/off the passenger's air bag. It is a saftey feature.

I'd keep the pre-06 seats and spend the money re-doing it in alcantara leather instead. Feels more luxurious, and grips better too.
2005GPW -- out of curiousity, why would you prefer the 06 seats over the pre-06? Not that there's anything wrong with it, just wondering what triggered the intent. Looks? Comfort?
On the topic of seats, I've fallen for the tan leather ones on the black berlina that Saki GT has on his/her S. So elegant
