Winter blues - what're you doing with your S2000?

Where do you live in New Zealand? My wife and I just visited the south island for two weeks last month. Nice people, beautiful scenery, plenty of curvy 2-lane roads. Seemed as if the speed limits were pretty slow, though...if a typical American were to drive there the way that he did at home, I suspect it wouldn't be long before he would be issued a ticket or received one taken by a camera in the mail shortly after returning home. I did spy an S2000 while visiting...perhaps it was you!

I'm in Hawkes Bay, on the East cost of the North Island. My local touge is near Havelock North, through the Tuki Tuki Valley, or a short blast up Te Mata Peak. Probably the best place in NZ to have a drop-top since we have fairly settled weather most of the year. We get about 8 weeks of miserable weather around July-August, then it generally ranges from not-too-bad to glorious. We don't get snow other than very top of the Peak about once every 5 years (which is 1300ft above sea level) and annual rainfall is around 27 inches. Summer highs are normally around 95 degrees, and it's rarely below freezing other than early Spring and Fall mornings when it's been a still, cloudless night. Even in Winter we're routinely over 60 degrees.
Maybe I missed my calling in tourism/meteorology.

Maybe, but it definitely sounds like you should have bought a S2000 sooner.
Sounds really nice there. I personally don't deal well with temps above 85℉ but it seems that there is no shortage of top down weather where you're at. (I'm really glad to know that you didn't opt for the hard top given this.) My own S2000 is now ready to sit for a while after having added fuel stabilizer and topping off the tank. One more good cleaning and conditioning session for the seats and some Shin-Etsu grease for the rubber bits and then I'll simply look forward to driving it again next year. This is the time of year when the old Tundra shines (not literally as it's really quite dirty). It gets me to and from a variety of Steel Winterheading spots and hauls my family and gear up around the mountain quite often without pause. When things warm up once again I'll miss these things but I'll be happy to pull the S2000 out of the garage again by then. For me it's a good balance and it helps keep the mileage lower on the S.

Since I live in North Texas, winter driving isn't that different than any other season. I do have to drive with the top up more because of colder temperatures and the threat of rain. If anything, the S is more responsive in the cooler weather. Temps around 100° during the summer has an effect.

I am compiling some shop items for the spring. I plan to do a Deckoz style deep clean so I ordered a Dupray Neat steam cleaner. I am planning on taking the seats out so I can get everywhere I want to. I also plan on restoring the driver's side bolster so I may order the necessary things for this as well. The leather is good but the seat pan bolster is crushed.

Summer year round here in Hawaii, so I still get to take mine out every weekend. Winter here means nothing more than just the temps dropping to mid 70’s.
